US, Saudi, GCC Leaders to Talk on Iran, Syria Crises

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will travel to Saudi Arabia and Turkey for meetings March 30-April 1 to confer on “the full range of bilateral and regional issues, including ongoing security cooperation in the region, as well as the international community’s continuing efforts to stop the bloodshed in Syria” according to the U.S. State Department this week.

Saudi Arabia Inflation Report – February 2012 – Jadwa

This week Riyadh-based Jadwa Investment circulated its monthly Inflation Report which noted the February year-on-year rate of inflation increased to 5.4 percent, the highest since December 2010, lifted by another increase in rents, and other domestic inflationary pressures continued to rise. Saudi Women in Business: A Conversation with Samra Al-Kuwaiz

The US-Saudi Business Opportunities Forum in Atlanta, organized under the guidance of the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Industry by the Committee for International Trade, the Saudi-US Trade Group and the US-Saudi Arabian Business Council, brought together well over a thousand people to explore the commercial expansion in Saudi Arabia and what it means for investment and partnerships for American business people. The Saudi delegation of government officials, business people and media who participated shared their insights on the commercial landscape and provided perspective on other developments in Saudi Arabia. U.S. Competition with Iran – The Gulf States

Understanding the Military Equation in the Gulf

As we take stock of the increasing prospects for a military confrontation between Iran and an international coalition we are mindful of the recent deployment of equal measures of blustery rhetoric and military forces for power projection demonstrations. The escalating tensions have reenergized the armchair admirals who seek to shape the conversation. Sadly much of the conversation ignores many of the facts on the ground. We are fortunate, however, that Anthony H. Cordesman, Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, and his colleagues, have produced a collection of very valuable reports on the “Gulf Military Balance.” We were also fortunate to have learned about a well researched report from Kenneth Katzman and his colleagues at the Congressional Research Service addressing “Iran’s Threat to the Strait of Hormuz.”
