King Khalid bin Abdul Aziz (خالد بن عبد العزيز آل سعود) (1912– June 13, 1982) was Crown Prince from 1965–75 and King of Saudi Arabia from 1975-82. He ruled during the oil boom years of the Kingdom. In 1979, he dealt with the Grand Mosque Seizure. As King, he delegated many of his responsibilities to his half-brother Crown Prince Fahd.
Khalid was named Crown Prince in 1965, after his older brother (and only full brother) Muhammad bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud declined a place in the succession. He was not very interested in politics, as King, he gave effective control of the country to his half-brother, Crown Prince Fahd. Upon meeting British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Khalid is reputed to have said he would be happy to discuss falcons with her, but for all matters of administration she should talk to Crown Prince Fahd.
