"Bahrain's political societies [May 14] abandoned their campaign to petition His Majesty King Hamad for constitutional changes. The announcement from Al Wefaq Islamic Society president Shaikh Ali Salman came after a rally demanding the release of 14 people held in custody for collecting signatures for the petition was called off.
